money and motherhood

Some days I look at my bank balance and just breathe this massive sigh of relief. Before I started this work, everything was so tight. Every bill was a negotiation, every school trip a stress. Now? Things are different.

I remember when Mark and I separated, everyone had an opinion. My sister thought I was mad to consider escorting. My mam was worried about safety. But nobody was paying my mortgage or buying school uniforms. Nobody was making sure the kids had what they needed except me.

I'm not ashamed to say the money makes a massive difference. Last month I paid off the last of my credit card debt. The kids are in good schools. We take little weekend trips now. Nothing fancy, but comfortable. Real comfortable.

The work isn't always easy. Some clients are grand, some are... well. But I'm professional. I show up. I do what needs doing. And then I come home and make dinner and help with homework like any other mum.

Two worlds. One me. And I'm proud of how I've managed both.
